PNHA GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

SEPTEMBER 20, 2010

 

President Don Wissner called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.  The meeting was held at the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Hall with 65 attendees, representing 40 households.

 

Minutes of the Last Meeting

 

The May 10, 2010, General Meeting minutes, made available by handout, were accepted as written.

 

Election of Secretary

 

Nomination of Eva Woolschlager for the position of PNHA Secretary was presented and approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report

 

Giff Giffin reported for period ending August 31, 2010, showing a current balance as of 8/31 of $23,568.17.  The picnic is not fully shown in the August report.  The Treasurer’s report approval was moved, seconded, and approved.

 

Financial Director’s Report

 

Jim Larimer presented the August 2010 Financial Report explaining income and expenses.  Jim reported that budgeted spending is in line with membership dues below budget due to the slight drop in membership.  Tax returns are prepared for 2009/2010 and will be filed; PNHA pays taxes due to Newsletter advertisement revenue.  The Financial Director’s report was approved.

 

Membership Report

 

Charlie Szoch was absent.  Comment was made that membership was down.  Currently there are six hundred members.

 

Publications Director’s Report

 

Dan Dunton made no report.

 

Social Activities Director’s Report

 

Dee Sweitzer was absent.  Dan Whaley reminded members that the Octoberfest is Friday, October 8, 2010, at 6:00 PM.   Preparations are going well.

 

The Annual Holiday party will be held at the Orchard Restaurant Thursday, December 9, 2010.

 

The next PNHA General Meeting to be held November 8, 2010, at the Mont Alto Fire Hall with Tom Scott, a CPA from Rotz and Stonesifer as the speaker.  His topic will be tax planning for the 2010 tax returns.

 

 

 

Local Government Liaison Director’s Report

 

Fred Ziemer was absent.

 

White Rock Liaison Report

 

Art Kuehn was in attendance.  No report.

New Business

 

Sylvia Troost introduced the Grove Family Library 50/50 Raffle.  One thousand tickets are for sale at $5.00 each.  Winning ticket(s) would be a $2,500 prize.

 

Sylvia also recommended two books by Greg Mortenson:  Three Cups of Tea and Stones into Schools.   His story covers his experiences being injured climbing mountains in Pakistan which led to forming a charity to raise money for schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan; especially for girls.  By 1996, 139 schools had been built.  Sylvia mentioned the Central Presbyterian Church on Sunday October 17, 2010, at 4:00 PM, will raise money for Mr. Mortenson’s charity Pennies for Peace.  The two speakers at this event will talk about their about their Iditarod experiences with pictures, sleds, and dogs.

 

Len Lindenmeyer mentioned an article regarding the Animal Shelter in the September Newsletter and their needing volunteers.  There will be a program in the Trellis Room on Wednesday, September 29, at 6:00 PM for the Animal Shelter.

 

SNaP – Dan Whaley mentioned October 7, 2010, SNaP will sponsor the Breast Cancer Awareness Program to be held at the Trellis Terrace from 3:00-4:30 PM and is open to the public.  There will be a Potluck Dinner for SNaP on October 13.  On October 14, SNaP members will be speaking on starting a “Naturally Occurring Retirement Community” at Wilson College from 10:30-11:45 AM and all are invited.

 

Program

 

Two EMT representatives explained emergency services available.  They were Joel Oyler - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and spokesperson from Mont Alto Emergency Medical Services and Jim Birgfeld - Paramedic and Community Outreach Representative for Fayetteville Emergency Medical Services.  Basic Life Support (BLS) membership is $35 individual/$45 family annually from Mont Alto and $45 annually from Fayetteville.  Both are needed as Mont Alto provides ambulance service and Fayetteville provides advanced life support, especially for cardiac emergencies.  Following their presentation, there was a Question and Answer Session.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM.
