Hope this will help you find basic stores.  As you become more familiar with the area, you may find better ways to go, but this is a start.

There is a street map of Chambersburg in the telephone directory.

Cumberland Valley maps, which show Franklin and Cumberland counties as well as street maps of Chambersburg, Greencastle, Waynesboro, Mercersburg and Shippensburg, are available at the Cumberland Valley Visitors Center which is located on Rt. 30 on the right, just before Rt. 81, in a building which looks like a train station.  Though they haven’t been updated since 1995, they are still very good.  Cost - $1.95 + tax.

Henickle’s Market – North on 997 to light at 30.  Turn Right and go about 1-1/2 miles.  Store is on right.  This is a fairly well stocked small grocery chain in the area.  Their prices are higher than the big stores, but they are closer.

Basic directions:

A.        North on 997.  Left on Duffield Road (in Pond Bank).  First right on to Eby Road.  Eby goes into Mont Alto Road.  Follow Mont Alto to light at Rt. 30 (Lincoln Way East).

Turn right on 11 and follow until you see Cressler’s Plaza on your left.  This is nearly to Shippensburg.  They have an ad insert in Monday’s Public Opinion.

You will also be able to register to vote.  PA also has an organ donor program.

Tags:  We got our tags at Sollenberger’s Messenger Service, Inc. in Fayetteville.  Take 997 to Rt. 30.  Left on 30.  You will see a sign for Fayetteville to your right.  I think there is also a large billboard for Sollenberger’s there, too, which tells you in which house the service is located.  I think it is the first house on the right (they have moved since we got our tags).

In order to register your vehicle you will need to take:

---A valid title for your vehicle issued in your name, from the state you left.

---A valid insurance identification card, declaration page of an insurance policy, a copy of a valid binder or a copy of an application for insurance to the PA Assigned Risk Plan.

---Form of identification (can be your driver’s license).

---You will have to have the vehicle with you so the VIN number can be checked or take a tracing of the VIN with you.

Title fee is $22.50.  If you have an unpaid loan on the car, an additional $5.00 is charged.

Registration fee is $36.00.  I believe there is a fee to Sollenberger’s also, but it is small.   You can also obtain special tags (Owl, tiger etc.) from them.

There are other places to get tags, also.  Check your phonebook under notaries.

Inspections:   Safety inspections are performed at many places, gas stations, garages, etc.  As you drive, look for the signs.  Inspection fees can vary, so you may want to shop around.  There is a time limit for your inspection after you receive your tags.  Check with your tag supplier.

WARNING:  Your first inspection is only good for 11 months.  After that, inspections are good for a year.  PA does not send inspection reminders.
